South Australia’s One Barrel Brewing Wins World Beer Award: Australia’s Top Gose

One Barrel Brewing received recognition at the 2019 World Beer Awards for their outstanding example amongst a pool of Australian competitors.

Adelaide, South Australia – On 9 August One Barrel Brewing’s outstanding The Silesian Gose beer was announced as the prestigious World Beer Awards’ Australian Winner in the Sour & Wild Beer category.
The global World Beer Awards select the very best beers from a variety of internationally recognised styles. International beer experts make up the specialist tasting panels. This annual event awards and promotes the world’s best beers to trade and consumers worldwide.
Owner of One Barrel Brewing, Mark Prior explains his brewing principle.
‘I like to keep things interesting by using as many different techniques, raw materials and ingredients, and fermentation and maturation processes as feasibly possible.
‘Brewing is as simple or as complicated as you want it to be.’
Mark’s background in brewing spans 15 years, during which time he has received a number of peer awards. In 2008 he entered the commercial realm at a small microbrewery in the Barossa Valley, South Australia. His desire for learning the science of the craft led him to complete brewing science courses at the University of Ballarat and The World Brewing Academy, Chicago, Illinois.
One Barrel Brewing is currently a one-person operation, nestled in one of Adelaide’s northern suburbs, Andrews Farm.
The name, The Silesian, was inspired by the Barossa Valley’s famous Seppelt family. After fleeing persecution from the Prussian Tsar, they settled in the beautiful Barossa Valley. One of the names put forward for the region was New Silesia.
